Russia keeps 60 political prisoners in Crimean jails, Eskender Bariev

Speaking to journalists in Kyiv, a member of the Crimean Tatars Mejlis Eskender Bariev said there are about 60 political prisoners in Crimea, Krym.Realiji reported Nov. 6.

New arrests of Crimean Tatars have taken place since the recent extradition to Turkey of Tatars leaders Ilmi Umerov and Ahtem Chijgoz, Bariev said. 

After the Russian grab of Crimea in 2014, the occupants cracked down on Crimea Tatars activists, Muslims and nationalists accusing them of conspiring with terrorist organizations.
