Russia’s presidential candidate admits Crimea belongs to Ukraine

A Russian anchor and opposition activist, Xenia Sobchak, who last week announced she would run for president says Crimea is part of Ukraine according to the international law, Radio Svoboda quotes her as saying during her press conference Oct. 24.

By grabbing Crimea in 2014 Russia violated the Budapest memorandum it signed, guaranteeing the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

She said Ukraine is Russia’s major partner and friendship with Ukraine is to be restored.

Meanwhile, Xenia Sobchak said she can step down if opposition politician Olexy Navalnyj would be allowed to run for president.
