Ukraine agrees to swap 87 POWs held by Donbas rebels for 309

Speaking on Kanal 5 TV Sept. 5, Yurij Tandit, the SBU adviser, says Ukraine is prepared to exchange 309 POWs held by Ukraine for 87 held by the rebels.

On an optimistic note, he said negotiators in Minsk have begun to discuss the exchange procedures.

Ukraine, however, will not agree to rebels demands to include in the exchange list those criminals who are serving prison sentences for crimes unrelated to the Donbas war, the official said.

The list of such persons includes 42 persons, many of them terrorists and separatists arrested in mainland Ukraine.
