Foreign governments have arrested over half a ton of gold stolen and tunneled to the west by ex-president Yanukovych’s insiders, deputy prosecutor general YevhenYenin told Insider Sept. 4.
The total amount of assets stolen by Yanukovych’s gang amounts to $40 bn. Of these, $1.5 bn has been confiscated by the government in Ukraine, he said.
“It would be premature to say that there is little chance of recovering all the money stolen. The process is under way,” the official said.
The thieves funneled stolen money to the banks in Austria, UK, Latvia, Cyprus, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands, the official said.
