Interviewed by Hard Talk on ZIK, Hennadij Kernes, the mayor of Kharkiv suspected of illegal enrichment, admitted he had sold his assets when he heard about the bill proposing the confiscation of assets of some tycoons, his name being on the list.
Kernes named the authors of the bill – his arch enemy Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and Serhij Pashynsky.
“I don’t want to be proving [after the confiscation – Ed.] that I owned some assets before I became the mayor. That is why I found a buyer and sold my property,” Kernes admitted.
The mayor lives in a hotel. “Many live in hotels,” he commented.
He is rich enough to by a posh apartment but there is something special about the atmosphere in a hotel, he said.
