A court in Kyiv ruled to consider the criminal case against ex-president Yanukovych in absentia, Hromadske reports June 29.
Defense lawyers say the ruling is unlawful and threaten to complain to the European court.
In the meantime, Yanukovych defense turned down several proposals of the prosecution to use Skype for questioning Viktor Yanukovych.
To stall the trial, defense lawyers demanded the presence in court of Ukraine’s top officials, the president, Rada speaker and prosecutor general.
The charges against Yanukovych include state treason (inviting Russian troops to enter Donbas in 2014), abuse of office and large-scale theft.
