If Ukraine within 20 years shows the same growth rate as Poland did, it will be a heavy blow to Putin, Russian political expert Dmitri Oreshkin told The Apostrof June 8.
In many ways, Ukraine is similar to Poland. If it shows a steady growth, it will hit Putin hard. I hope, this will happen but it will take decades, Oreshkin said.
Russia is bending over backwards to stall Ukraine’s development by sending terrorist groups and backing the war in Donbas, he said.
“Russia cannot engulf Donbas as it doesn’t have the economic potential enough. Nor can it relinquish Donbas as Moscow will lose face. For its part, Ukraine also cannot recognize Donbas sovereignty or take it back,” the Russian says.
In his opinion, Donbas will turn into another TransNistria, a frozen conflict similar to Cyprus or Georgia.
