A court in Lviv ruled to keep a suspected customs official in 60-day custody or release on UAH2-million ($77,000) bail, PGO June 6 report says.
The highly placed Lviv customs official is suspected of setting up a system of monthly collections from inferior customs divisions
The official was detained on June 2 by agents.
He was caught red-handed at the moment of receiving a monthly kickback. The agents searched his car and found US$60,000 in it.
The official has been charged with bribe-taking coupled with extortion which carries a 5-to10 years in jail and confiscation of property.
