Ukraine to stop shipments of food to TransNistria without Moldova clearance

As of May 20, Ukraine stopped shipments of food to the self-proclaimed TransNistria without prior clearance from Moldova food safety agency, Ukrainian government reports.

The new procedure is in compliance with the agreement on cooperation in the CIS veterinary sector.

When the news of the ban became known, Moldova leader Vadim Krasnoselsky called an urgent session of his government to address a threat to food security.

As of the start of 2017, shipments of food from 29 countries to TransNistria via a Ukrainian port reached 6,000 tons.
