Lutsenko clashes with Sytnyk over Special Anti-Corruption Court

Addressing a debate on tackling high-level graft May 22, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, NABU, Artem Sytnyk said without the independent Special Anti-Corruption Court, SAC, cases of graft will be considered for up to 10 years, UNIAN reports May 22.

SAC judges must be selected via contests supervised by NGOs, he said.

SAC can be set up by late 2017 given the political will and legislative support, Sytnyk said.

However, Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko spoke against SAC, saying a special anti-corruption chamber should be set up within the existing court system.

Lutsenko statement runs counter to many earlier assurances and commitments by Ukrainian leaders in support of an independent SAC.
