In a statement on May 12, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau urged lawmakers not to support the bill No. 6220 which gives the Prosecutor General’s Office and SBU control over independent prosecutors from NABU and Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution.
If Rada passes the second reading on the bill due May 17, NABU and SAP will be forced to close the current investigations of high-level politicians, NABU warned.
The bill, if enacted, will allow meddling of PGO and SBU in investigations of corrupt officials.
The bill No.6220 was passed in the first reading on Apr. 13 despite the failing grades given by Rada’s main research/assessment department and NGOs.
