In the wake of bloody clashes on May 9 Victory Day between army veterans and pro-Russian goons, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has dismissed several top police officers for failing to intervene and stop the bloodshed, Avakov writes in Facebook May 10.
The ministry set up an investigation commission to probe into police negligence.
The bloodshed was provoked by goons who attacked the demonstrators and severely beat them up. It widely believed that the former Party of Regions (now the Opposition Block) hired martial arts sportsmen to attack the veterans.
The police arrested 15 demonstrators. Fourteen demonstrators and 6 police were injured.
