Prof. Roman Yaremijchuk, a veteran of Ukraine’s oil/gas industry, says extremely big gas deposits, much bigger than Russia has, have been found on the Crimean shelf.

Speaking to ZIK on Apr. 26, Prof. Yaremijchuk said one of the reasons why Putin seized Crimea in 2014 was extremely large gas deposits in the Black Sea near Crimea.

The amount of gas is larger than that Russia has in its northern territories.

Yaremijchuk took part in the talks with the Hunt Oil Company on exploration in Crimea. Hunt was prepared to invest $300 mn in the first drill because the company was sure of a positive result.

Later, however, the Yanukovyc cabinet revoked the contract with Hunt in favor of an unknown Venco company, a corrupt deal by all standards, he said.
