Lawmaker explains cause of IMF tranche delay

One of the main causes why the IMF put on hold a $1-billion tranche it was going to extend to Ukraine is the squabble about the selection of auditors for the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Rada lawmaker Andry Antonyshchak said March 22, Ukrinform reports March 23.

“We had known one week prior to the IMF decision that the tranche would be put on hold. The main reason is the way candidates for the NACB audit team were selected, including an American auditor who had covered all the required procedures and a British one who appeared out of the blue,” the lawmaker said.

Were it not for Ukraine’s glaring corruption at the customs, state-run railways, UkrTransHaz and other state-run companies, Ukraine would be able to do without IMF loans, the lawmaker said.
