Amazing landings of An-22 on mud airfield in Mali

Antonov-22 jumbo plane has become a sole air supplier for the UN mission in Mali.

A number of western companies refused to land on a local mud and uneven airstrip, after propellers and bodies of their planes were damaged, TCH reports Jan. 13.

Additional difficulty was the lack of airstrip lights and markings, Captain Viktor Honcharov says.

On the latest, sixth, flight to Mali the Ukrainian plan delivered tons of cargo during a 10-hour long flight.

An-22 was designed to land on mud airstrips.
