Shokin sacks Sakvarelidze

Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who faces his own dismissal today by the Rada, sacked his deputy reform-minded David Sakvarelidze, PGO website reports March 29.

Shokin based his decision on the open letters from prosecutors and lawmakers who ‘were angered by the incompatibility of Sakvarelidze and the duties of his office.

Hence, the dismissal of Sakvarelidze ‘brings into conformity the office of a deputy prosecutor general and the law on the prosecution,” Shokin argued.

Shokin also reprimanded Sakvarelidze for organizing and taking part in street protests near the PGO about the dismissal of a group of reformist prosecutors.
