Russia’s Gazprom has spurned higher gas transit tariffs via Ukraine, Naftohaz Ukrayiny director for development Yury Vitrenko said, speaking on Hromadske TV March 2.
“The contract with Russia envisages raising transit tariffs, and Russia has no legal grounds to ignore the fact,” the Ukrainian official said.
In 2016, Gazprom has to pay in taxes about $6.4 billion or thrice as much as in 2015.
Higher tariffs are not Ukraine’s whim, the official said. They are prescribed by the Ukrainian law following the implementation of EU’s energy legislation, he said.
