Over the past 3 months, 25 Security Service officers have been arrested, SBU chief Vasyl Hrytsak told journalists Oct. 10.
The latest catch included 2 SBU officers, a captain and senior lieutenant were arrested Oct. 9 for extorting kickbacks from the officers of Donbas volunteer battalions for closing criminal investigations against them, Hrytsak said.
Most of the arrested face corruption charges, the official said.
Among them, there are 2 officers who had been arrested for state treason for working for Russian special services.
Hrytsak said the counterintelligence department deputy head at Kyiv SBU office had been spying for Russia.
“Another colonel, deputy head of the investigation department at Donetsk SBU office was caught red handed when he was passing classified materials to the separatists, Hrytsak said.
