May 20, about 500 senior grades schoolchildren in Rivne were bussed to the firing range as part of ‘Defend Your Country’ program, ZIK reports.
At first, they were instructed by Ukraine army servicemen how to assemble and disassemble a Kalashnikov gun.
Later on, they were allowed to shoot from the gun using combat ammunition.
Educators believe such program will enhance the patriotic awareness of schoolchildren.
“When you hold a real gun in your hands you feel strong and confident. Earlier, I shot only from a pneumatic gun. Now I feel the difference,” Dmytro Derkach, School 28, says proudly.
