This summer, a reformed police force will take over from the existing one, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov told journalists in Lviv Apr. 20.
In all, 800 policemen will be recruited for the force, he said.
New police officers will be patrolmen. They will have 5-7 minutes to get to the crime scene. Their salaries will amount to UAH8,000-10,000 a month ($400), compared with $70 they get now, the minister said.
Ukraine’s partners in the USA, Canada and EU will take part in the reform, with major funding to be burdened by the country’s budget.
New patrolmen will wear US-made uniforms. They will get Japanese cars, new IPads and other electronic equipment.
Similar reforms are under way in Kyiv and Odesa.
