72.8% of residents of the Donetsk oblast and over 70% in the Luhansk oblast favor united Ukraine, according to the so-called people’s referendum run by NGOs on May 4.
24.75% of residents of the Donetsk oblast are against the territorial integrity of Ukraine, with 26.9% in the Luhansk oblast.
The referendum’s other question related to giving more powers to local communities in terms of independent budgets and cultural policy was supported by 84.79% of residents in the Donetsk oblast and 87.7% in the Luhanski oblast.
100,000 ballots were disseminated in the Donetsk oblast, with 93,878 of them filled in, against 89,560 ballots filled in by Luhansk oblast residents.
According to one of the coordinators of the People’s referendum in the Donetsk oblast Dmytro Tkachenko, the results testify to the fact that the idea of federal Ukraine backed and bankrolled by Russia is groundless.
The referendum was not run in the hot areas of Donbas like Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Horlivka.
The People’s referendum is more representational and legitimate than the one to be held by the self-proclaimed authorities in Donbas on the creation of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
