Yanukovych to pardon Tymoshenko if she asks for it, says Herman
Pres Yanukovych may pardon Yulia Tymoshenko if she appeals for her pardon, Yanukovych’s adviser Hanna Herman told Radio Svoboda Oct. 8.If Tymoshenko submits her appeal for clemency, Yanukovych will have legal grounds to ask Verkhovna Rada to adopt the appropriate law, she said.
The pardon cannot be forced by threat, blackmail or pressure on the president, Herman stressed.
Herman said she was surprised by Tymoshenko’s recent consent to be treated abroad. “Who did she give her consent to? To herself?” Herman asked.
When Tymoshenko is pardoned, she has a big chance to return to politics, same as Yury Lutsenko, Herman said.
