Herman to quit politics if Yanukovych doesn’t “make it easy” for Yulia Tymoshenko
A heavyweight Regions politician, Hanna Herman, said on the Sept. 30 ICTV late night talk-show that, unless Viktor Yanukovych “makes easier the plight of Tymoshenko,” she will retire. The Tymoshenko card will be played off to hinder Ukraine’s movement toward the EU. Yulia Tymoshenko, unwillingly, became a tool used by Ukraine’s enemies to stop Ukraine from stepping on the west-bound track of development, Herman warned.
“I hope she will come out with a statement that the country’s European integration cannot be hinged on the plight of one person,” Herman said.
“I am sure that after signing the association agreement, getting back on his feet, the president, who is looking for way-outs of the present situation, will find the one and make easier the plight of his opponent. He will do so not at gunpoint of threats from other states and foreign leaders. He will do so due to his kind heart, Christian beliefs and good nature,” Herman said.
“I believe in Yanukovych. If, however, my belief is mere illusions, I am prepared to say publicly ‘I quit politics for good because I was mistaken about this person.’ But I have known this man for over 8 years,” she stressed, Ukrayinska pravda reported Sept. 30.
Interestingly, in 2009 Herman pledged to return to journalism if Yanukovych won the 2010 presidential election.
