Ukraine Helsinki group appeals to Yanukovych to pardon Tymoshenko

Apr. 10, the Ukrainian branch of the Helsinki group for human rights observance has appealed to Pres Yanukovych to pardon ex-Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, Radio Svoboda reports Apr. 10.

The imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko and new criminal investigations by prosecutors have brought to the limelight selective justice and inferior standards on human rights in Ukraine, the group’s statement runs.
The imprisonment of the opposition leader was ruinous to her health, the fact confirmed by many international medical specialists. The present conditions in which Tymoshenko is kept cannot ensure a proper medical support for Tymoshenko.
As of Apr, 2013, Yulia Tymoshenko has concluded a considerable part of her prison sentence.
“Considering your policy to humanize the system of punishment and taking into account the existing European standards of health care for sick criminals, we appeal to you to free Yulia Tymoshenko,” the Helsinki group statement runs.
