Communist opt for corruption in higher education

By insisting on the reinstatement of entrance exams and cancelling independent exams for secondary school graduates, Communist lawmakers will open the door on rampant corruption in higher education, says head of the Rada committee on science and education Lilia Hrinevych, Radio Svoboda reported Jan. 14.

Experts say 75% of Ukraine school leavers are in favor of independent exams on the results of which they can enter universities without any entrance exams.
Before the independent testing was introduced by progressive Education Minister Ivan Vakarchuk, the country’s higher education had been notorious for bribe-taking and use of administrative levers when a call from a highly placed official was sufficient to enroll his protégé.
