Colonel Vasyl Levkovych (Voronyj) died today in Lviv at the age of 93. Born on Feb. 6, 1920 in Stary Liublinets, he joined the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in 1939. He finished his military career as commander of the Buh military district.
Arrested by the Soviets, he was sentenced to 25 years in the concentration camp. He was released in 1971.
At the special session of the Lviv oblast council March 5, 2008, Colonel Levkovych was handed Ukrainian Insurgent Army’s Golden Cross of Honor which he received in 1946.
