The leader of the opposition Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych will appear in the Friday Shuster Live talk show, Anna Herman, widely believed to be Yanukovych speech writer, said Dec. 22.
“Our leader will be alone, just like Tymoshenko was at last week’s talk show,” Herman stressed.
“However, he will take all the questions which journalists will put to him,” Herman assured.
Talk show’s anchorman Savik Shuster had invited 3 major presidential candidates, Tymoshenko, Yanukovych and Yushchenko, to debates in his Shuster Live program Dec. 18 broadcast by Ukrayina TV channel.
According to the terms of the talk show, in case of anyone of the candidates failing to appear, his time would be split between the remaining 2, or if 2 candidates fail to appear, the time would be given to the one present.
Since all but Tymoshenko failed to show up, Tymoshenko had all the time to herself.
In the wake of the show, Premier Tymoshenko accused Yanukovych and Yushchenko of having cold feet and full of fear to face her and journalists.
Earlier, under pressure from the Ukrayina TV channel owned by Rinat Akhmetov, Yanukovych’s colleague and sponsor, Savik Shuster agreed to give Viktor Yanukovych time for his solo appearance.
Shuster stressed, however, that debates among presidential candidates are a hallmark of a civilized society and help the populace to size up the candidates.
