Karpaty FC general Director Oleksandr Yefremov and President of Karol Vojtyla Cup organizing committee Gianluka Di Karlo signed a contract to hold football matches in Lviv. The signing ceremony was conducted July 18 during a press conference in Lviv.
“In the course of our relationships with Karpaty FC managers last year we realized that this club can host matches in one of the selection zones. That is why we awarded the contract to Karpaty FC,” Karol Vojtyla Cup organizing committee President Gianluka Di Karlo says.
If a proposal to host matches in other selection zones is received by the OC, the scope of the tournament will be expanded, Gianluka Di Karlo added.
For instance, next year England or Italy might host the cup’s matches, the Italian said.
This year, zone matches will be held in Ukraine, Croatia, and Northern Italy, with Slovenia and Northern Italy on the list of candidates to host fourth zone matches. Italy will be represented by Juventus and Lacio, he said, but teams from other countries are still being chosen.
Di Karlo expresses hope that President of the Ukrainian Football Federation Grygory Surkis and Lviv Mayor Andry Sadovy will attend the finals in Rome.
The final match is to be played at Stadio Flamini in Rome.
“Many players involved in our tournament are now playing for their national teams, notably, De Silvestri from Lacio who will go to the Olympics as well as players from Juventus, Roma and Panatinaicos, Di Karlo stressed.
