A tender to design Lviv’s airport runway is to be held by late May. The design project is to be prepared by mid-summer, Lviv oblast Governor Mykola Kmit confirmed May 23.
Governor Kmit told about his meeting May 22 with deputy transport minister Vadym Hurzhos. “I told the official that the situation is not simple as, before announcing the tender, the issue of land has not been resolved by the ministry. However, if the runway modernization gets off the ground, I’ll be happy” the Lviv governor said.
In M. Kmit’s opinion, the conflict over the Lviv airport between the city and the ministry of transport must be resolved. During a session of the Euro-2012 Organizing Committee in Lviv last month, Mykola Kmit called on Lviv Mayor Sadovyj to appeal to Pres Yushchenko to revoke his decree transferring the Lviv airport to communal property. “Despite a memorandum signed by the ministry with Lviv city council that the airport remains as state-owned property, the ministry has done little to further the airport’s reconstruction,’ Mykola Kmit argued.
In his comments to ZIK, Lviv oblast council chair Myroslav Senyk said the council will petition the president and transport ministry to speed up the tender.
A council commission will look into runway modernization and assess the closure of airport for the duration of its reconstruction.
