Lviv police to fine student protesters for littering streets
Oct. 12, students of 13 oblast capitals and Crimea organized marches in protest against the cabinet’s decision to impose paid-for services at universities (for make-up exams, use of Internet, libraries, gyms, etc). In Lviv, students marched on the oblast administration where the rally was held, our correspondent reports. Fearing strong student reaction, the cabinet cancelled its decision – at 9 a.m. – but it was too late to avert the protests.Police say that at the scene of the rally students hurled eggs and bogus money. “Police are examining the area. We will bring some students to responsibility [the rally was apparently filmed by police – Ed.]”, Police Col. Mykhailo Kurochka warned.
