Oct. 31, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine detained three persons suspected of embezzling UAH14 mn ($0.538 mn), NABU reports.

The group includes the son of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and Avakov’s ex-deputy minister Serhy Chebotar.  As a private company, they were involved in supplying backpacks for the army. They purchased the backpacks from a manufacturer at the price considerably higher than the market one, NABU says.

The backpacks, besides, were not supplied ion time and did not meet the army standards.

As a result of the deal, UAH14 mn was embezzled, NABU says.

Interestingly, NABU has been investigating the case since 2016.
