If the United States provide lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine, Russia may substantially scale up the conflict in Donbas and even capture new territories, Stratfor, a private US intel think tank, says in its report Apostrof reports Sept. 27.
“Russia will react swiftly, either by escalating the present stand-off in Donbas or capturing new territories in Donbas. Moscow may try to stab the US in Northern Korea or Syria,” the report runs.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s ex-representative in NATO Gen. Harashchuk says the US, a signatory to the 1994 Budapest memorandum guaranteeing Ukraine’s security, should have given its lethal defensive weapons earlier, three years ago, when Putin started the war in Donbas and annexed Crimea.
Not a single country has made such a formidable contribution to the cause of peace as Ukraine when it gave up its nuclear arsenal, the third largest in the world, in exchange for guarantees of security and territorial integrity, the general said.
