The International Monetary Fund has never demanded that Ukraine raise gas prices. The government has committed itself to up gas prices to receive more credits from the IMF, ex-minister for housing Olexy Kucherenko said, speaking on ZIK TV Sept. 13.
“Nobody forced the government to undertake such rigid commitments to raise gas prices, utility payments, etc. When the IMF received the government’s payments targets, it accepted them. The officials got what they needed – more money to divide,” he said.
According to the law, all prices must be economically balanced. Premier Grojsman, however, introduced the so-called import parity, saying the prices for gas must equal its cost in the west, Kucherenko said.
