The Security Service of Ukraine, SBU, opened a criminal investigation into the illegal bankrolling by the Odesa city counsel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), Rada lawmaker Vitalij Kuprij wrote in Facebook June 6.
“I have received a letter from SBU chief Vasyl Hrytsak, confirming the agency, following my demand, has opened a probe against the city council for funding aimed at the toppling of the existing regime, capturing state power, changing the borders and territory of Ukraine,” the lawmaker wrote.
Part of the UOC (MP) clergy is helping Donbas militants, the lawmaker said.
He also said that, according to The Segodnya, Odesa Metropolitan Agafangel handed out sniper rifles and submachines to anti-Ukrainian protesters before the bloody clash in Apr. 2014 that killed 48 pro-Russian activists.
