State-run Ukroboronprom weapons maker will start production of the American M-16 automatic rifle, the company’s deputy director Volodymyr Korobov announced, Ukrayinska pravda reported Jan. 3.
“Our company is involved in a project to assemble M-16 rifles in Ukraine. The project is at the documentation stage but we will soon start production.
The implementation of the project will let Ukraine switch to NATO standards,” he said.
The armies of 40 countries have commissioned M-16, Ukroboronpromservice director Serhy Mykytiuk said.
