New patrol police officers have been sworn in today in Ivano-Frankivsk. They will start patrolling the city the same day, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said Jan. 31.
Ivano-Frankivsk is the eleventh city where new police had been launched. To follow are Kherson, Vinnytsia, Cherniohiv, Kremenchuk, Cherkasy, Poltava Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi as well as some cities in Donbas, the minister said.
In May, the new police will number 16,000.
There were 5,322 applicants, with 208 passing the stringent checks, Avakov said.
28% of the police force are women, 25% are Donbas war veterans. 86% of policemen have higher education.
Many countries help Ukraine to launch the police by providing funds to pay the salaries, uniforms, cars and equipment.
