The ex-prosecutor of the Holovaniv rayon in Kirovohrad oblast, Yevhen Horbenko, filed a lawsuit with the Halytsky rayon court in Lviv demanding compensation for moral damage to his reputation.

He claims that the publication of an article by ZIK “injured his dignity and business reputation.”

It should be stressed that the publication in question was a verbatim reprint from The Ukrayinska Pravda.

Yevhen Horbenko was accused by prosecutors of being an accomplice to ex-lawmaker Viktor Lozynsky in a high-profile murder of Valery Olijnyk, who was trespassing in a forest leased by Lozynsky.

The prosecution charged Lozynsky, Horbenko and rayon police chief Kovalsky of purposefully inflicting heavy injuries to Olijnyk which resulted in his death.

The ex-prosecutor has accused ZIK of smearing his reputation by publishing untrue materials on its website. As a result, Horbenko says, he cannot find a job and earn an income to support his family as, judging by the publication, he is a criminal and serial killer.

The court opens preliminary hearings in this case at 9.30 on Sept. 9.
