Authorities prevent protesters to travel to Kyiv, Batkivshchyna party says

Bus companies in Lviv refuse to lease busses to Batkivshchyna Lviv branch to carry protesters for pickets outside Verkhovna Rada on Sept. 7, the party officials say.

According to first deputy head of the Lviv branch organization Roman Ilyk, Batkivshchyna approached 10 bus companies to lease busses, drawing a blank everywhere, the party’s press service release runs.

“All bus companies’ owners brushed off our proposals, admitting that they had been instructed by the authorities not to go to Kyiv on Sept. 7. Otherwise, they added, their licenses would be annulled,” Roman Ilyk complained.

This fact, Ilyk said, was another evidence of cynical methods used by the authorities to deal with their political opponents.

“Employing traitors and using legal shenanigans, the Yanukovych-Azarov regime is out to prevent Batkivshchyna from nominating its candidate for the local elections on Oct. 31. Now the regime glaringly infringes on the right of Ukrainians to protest,” Ilyk went on.

However, nothing will help the Party of Regions to usurp power in the country. “Ukrainians have learned over the past several months the true face of the regime disguised by sugary campaign promises. The regime’s mask will be torn away on Oct. 31 when Ukrainians show their reaction to its blatant hypocrisy. The bigger the pressure on the people, the bigger the opposition,” Ilyk summed up.
