Nothing threatens Ukraine, says Leonid Kravchuk
The first president of independent Ukraine believes nothing threatens Ukraine at the moment, UNIAN quotes him as saying at his Aug. 21 press conference.“To say that there are countries completely ensured against any threats would be an exaggeration,” Kravchuk said.
“I would disagree that Ukraine is now faced with larger threats to her security and independence than 4-5 years ago,” he went on.
Ukraine is faced with specific problems which must be tackled. They relate to the economy, politics, relations with other countries, notably with Russia. However, in 1991, the threats were larger and more numerous than today, Leonid Kravchuk noted.
Speaking of rampant corruption, Kravchuk said its level has even increased, rather than decreased.
Ukraine can become stronger and more independent if the needed reforms are implemented. “There haven’t been any reforms in Ukraine, same as there are no reforms now,” he said.
