Trust in Yanukovych regime declining, Razumkov Center poll says

Now only 25.6% of respondents approve of the actions undertaken by the regime. The figures indicate a substantial decline of optimism in society.

In the first half of 2010 Ukraine witnessed a substantial increase of social expectations related to the change of government. In May, 2010, 42.7% of Ukrainians approved of what the regime was doing, against 32.6% who disapproved.

Similarly, there are fewer Ukrainians who think that the regime justified their expectations (24.8% in May against 16.2% in August). The share of those who believe the new regime is better than the previous one has dropped from 49.2% to 33.6%.

According to The Korespondent, the level of trust in the authorities and top country’s leaders has dropped significantly. The number of those who fully support the government has dropped from 26.7% in May to 14.3% in August. The number of those who fully support the activities of Verkhovna Rada has also dropped from 19.3% in May to 10.9% in August.

The level of complete support for Premier Azarov over the period has dwindled from 31.7% to 16.9%, for Speaker Lytvyn from 15.1% to 9.9% and Serhy Tihipko from 27.8% to 20.6%.

The level of support for opposition leaders has remained practically unchanged, with Yulia Tymoshenko scoring 10.6% in May and 10.5% in August, Arseny Yatseniuk respectively 8.8% and 7.8% and Victor Yushchenko 3.4% and 2.7%.

Comment

The poll was run Aug. 10 through 15, involving 2009 respondents in all Ukraine oblasts, Kyiv and Crimea in 75 towns and 54 villages, with an estimated error of up to 2.3%.
