Yushchenko likely to grab his former state residence

Ex-president Viktor Yushchenko continues to live in his former state residence in Koncha-Zaspa near Kyiv, The Kyiv Post reported Aug. 19. -

Meanwhile, his press secretary has declared that the former president won’t stay in Koncha-Zaspa for ever.

“Yushchenko is living in the residence temporarily, until his private home in Bezradychi is repaired after the fire in April. Does the Ukrainian president have to live on the street? Let’s treat the president of Ukraine with respect,” she lectured to journalists.

Interestingly, the press secretary failed to explain why Yushchenko didn’t move to his Kyiv flat or a dacha in Western Ukraine.

In his last days in office, Yushchenko assured journalists that he would accept any decision by his successor. “If Yanukovych tells me to live in the railway station, I will accept his decision. If he allows me to stay, I will also accept,” he said.

Yanukovych deputy chief of staff Hanna Herman commented like this,” Leonid Kravchuk kept his presidential residence when he stepped down, same as Leonid Kuchma. Why not let Pres Yushchenko keep his residence? After all, this is a tradition in Ukraine.”
