Prosecution to take Lviv oblast council to court
Lviv prosecutors have appealed to the Halytsky rayon court to cancel the Lviv Oblast Council ruling to mark May 8-9 as the Remembrance Day for WWII victims, not as the Victory Day as it is marked now, oblast prosecution department told ZIK Aug. 19.Lviv oblast lawmakers passed their decision on May 25, 2010. The LOC banned to use the word combination “Great Patriotic war” [which stands for WW II and was used before the collapse of the USSR], saying it doesn’t meet Ukrainian historical realities.
The council decision also instructs to launch a public awareness campaign about the role of the nationalist liberation movement in the 40s-50s.
