Ex-economy minister in hiding in Germany, a PGO source indicates

According to The Segodnya, a source in the prosecutor general’s office has indicated that the former minister of the economy in the Tymoshenko cabinet, Bohdan Danylyshyn, is now in hiding in Germany, probably, in Cologne.

Danylyshyn fled Ukraine one day before criminal proceedings were opened against him. “Most probably, he has been tipped off by someone in the PGO,” the source said.

The ex-minister is on the wanted list in Ukraine now, but there is no knowledge if the Ukrainian authorities asked the Interpol to search for him.

“In fact, his chances of staying in Germany are low. If we request the Interpol, he has to ask for political asylum, say, in the UK, or discuss the issue with several other countries which do not extradite criminals, like Russia or Israel,” the source explained.

When Yanukovych came to power, prosecutors opened criminal investigation into Danylyshyn’s track record as minister, accusing him of abusing power and inflicting heavy losses to the state due to his role in shady deals involving the airport in Boryspil.

The prosecution estimates the losses at $560,000. Danylyshyn allegedly allowed the purchase of materials by-passing a tender at overstated prices.
