NGO accuses court of double standards
The Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine has retained Hero of Ukraine medals awarded to five Red Army soldiers. Meanwhile, earlier a court in Donetsk stripped nationalists Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych of similar titles. The Harmony and Order NGO based its suit on the same arguments used by the Donetsk court to take away the titles from Ukraine WWII nationalist leaders, TSN reports Aug.12.NGO head Dmytro Hudyma based his charges on the fact that, like in the Bandera and Shukhevych cases, the five Soviet soldiers were not citizens of Ukraine and, to go by the logic of the Donets court, there titles must be taken away.
The NGO filed its lawsuit with the Lviv administrative court in late April 2010 in the wake of the Donest court ruling stripping the nationalist leaders of their awards. The Lviv court, however, passes the case to the Supreme Arbitration Court for consideration.
