Bomb kills nun, injures 9 parishioners and damages church in Zaporizhia

July 28, a bomb planted in a church run by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Zaporizhia killed a nun, heavily wounded 9 other persons and destroyed part of the building.

The bombing comes at the height of Moscow Patriarch Kiril's visit to Ukraine. Kiril is pushing for supremacy of Moscow-affiliated branch in Ukraine [the Orthodoxy in Ukraine has two churches, one affiliated to Moscow and the other to Kyiv].

The police have opened a criminal investigation for premeditated murder.
The number of casualties is small as there was no service at the moment of the blast, police say.

Other churches in Zaporizhia have been inspected by police fearing more bombs.
Earlier this month, there were reports an almost finished wooden Ukrainian Orhtodox church (Kyiv Patriarchate) was burned down by vandals in Dnipropetrovsk.
