New regime’s track record is viewed as radical change, Lytvyn

Against the backdrop of inefficient rule of the past regime, the moves of the new regime can indeed be viewed as a radical change, Speaker Lytvyn told Dzerkalo tyzhnia July 15.

Not much has happened in Ukraine, Lytvyn admitted, but Ukrainians now live is peace and have a clear perspective. What the past regime was just declaring is now on track for practical implementation.

“Didn’t Viktor Yushchenko say at every corner we have to have normal relationship with Russia? But his actions were diametrically opposed. As regards the NATO, Ukraine continues to cooperate with the alliance. However, Viktor Yanukovych has openly declared that Ukraine won’t join NATO,” Lytvyn said.

The former ruling coalition was absolutely inefficient. It had 226 lawmakers [the majority] and we [Lytvyn’s bloc] joined them to get 248 lawmakers. However, not a single crucial bill was passed.

He praised the track record of the new ruling coalition. “We have a clear perspective. The snafu is over. There is a dialog. Sometimes, the political dialog is not among the equals, and we have to learn how to reach compromises,” Lytvyn summed up.
