As of Aug. 1, gas prices for households will grow by 50%, the National Commission for Regulating Electricity and Gas prices announced July 13.For Ukrainians that use up to 2.5 thousand cu m of gas annually the price will be UAH725 per 1,000 cu m instead of the present UAH483.
For consumers that use up to 6,000 cu m annually the price will go up from UAH732 to UAH1,098.
Consumers that use over 12,000 cu m annually will have to pay UAH2,686 per 1,000 cu m instead of UAH1,790.
Raising domestic gas prices for utility companies is one of Ukraine’s obligations regarding the IMF.
Not all members of the ruling majority agree with the price hikes. For instance, Oleksandr Holub, Communist, told The Dzerkalo tyzhnia that raising electricity and gas tariffs for the populace is economically inexpedient and is aimed to split up the ruling coalition.
Ukraine may receive a US$14.9 bln credit from the IMF at 3.5% annual interest if it meets all IMF demands.
