Newly passed electoral system will be scrapped after Oct.31 elections, Xenia Lyapina forecasts

The newly passed electoral system will be eventually scrapped after the local elections due Oct. 31, Xenia Lyapina, a noted NUNS lawmaker, told her voters in Lutsk, our correspondent reports July 12.

Lyapina summed up Verkhovna Rada’s track record. She criticized the majority for railroading the Budgetary Code. Speaking about another major document, the Tax Code, the lawmaker pointed to a series of significant shortfalls. However, the majority preferred to turn a deaf ear not only to the criticism in VR but also to outside negative evaluation of the code by experts.

She wished majority lawmakers would show more responsibility for the results of their work, not just being obedient yes-men who just push the right button indicated by the whip.
Attempts to protest the laws in courts are futile, as neither the Party of Regions-dominated Administrative nor the Constitutional Courts will cancel them, Lyapina stressed.

However, after the local elections the regime will make goody-goody eyes, saying the electoral laws are undemocratic – and revoke them. This will happen only after the local elections. Before the elections, the regime will have other parties toeing the line, Lyapina forecast.
