Poland’s attitude toward Ukraine not likely to change, expert says
With the election in Poland of a new president, Bronislaw Komorowski, the course of this country regarding Ukraine will be the same, and Poland will support Ukraine’s moves to integrate with Europe, said Hryhory Perepelytsya, director of the Foreign Policy Institute, speaking to IMK.Former Pres Lech Kaczynski strongly backed the European values and was Ukraine’s loyal ally in building a democracy. B. Komorowski represents a new generation of Polish politicians.
With democracy high on his agenda, Komorowski is likely to be more pragmatic than Kaczynski. “I do not believe, he would rush to Tbilisi to stand by Yushchenko in preventing the Russian onslaught. New Polish politicians won’t be that courageous and will look for compromises, the expert believes.
