SBU to question Tymoshenko and Turchynov in RosUkrEnergo case

The Security Service of Ukraine has plans to question all those involved in confiscating the natural gas owned by RosUkrEnergo in 2009. The former premier and vice premier, Yulia Tymoshenko and Oleksandr Turchynov will be summoned for questioning, SBU chief Valery Khoroshkovsky told the press June 25, Ukrayinska Pravda reports.

“We will question the persons involved in the confiscation regardless of their past positions in the government because they inflicted huge damage to the state,” the official said.

When told that the opposition considers questioning as political persecution, he answered, “We are dealing with a specific criminal case where there is a specific crime.”

“I am convinced that when the criminal investigation is over, when the court passes its legal and just ruling, all the talk about persecution will stop,” the chief spy added.

Asked why the ex-Customs head Anatoly Makarenko, who had been following Tymoshenko’s instructions, was arrested in the case, Khoroshkovsky said,” The fact that Tymoshenko declared she was giving orders to officials to confiscate the gas gives us more evidence, something for which we are thankful to her. However, in order to make it impossible for her to backtrack on her declarations, we need to gather more evidence.”
